The highest quality U.S. coins in the original U.S. Mint packaging!
Until 1964, America’s dimes, quarters and half dollars were all struck in 90% silver — including the coins in the U.S. Mint’s official Proof Sets, the coveted “crown jewels” of American coinage. Today, the last-ever 90% silver Proof Sets represent the end of the “silver era” of U.S. coinage, but they are harder to find than ever before — especially as complete sets in the original U.S. Mint packaging.
Each of the dimes, quarters and half dollars are struck in precious 90% silver with a total of 24 silver coins in the complete collection. Together, they contain over 4 troy ounces of pure silver! Unlike regular coins for circulation, proof coins are double-struck under intense pressure to achieve the distinctive mirror-like backgrounds and razor-sharp images. They are America's highest-quality coins — but due to the slow, painstaking production process, they are also the rarest coins from this era. In fact, less than 3% of all U.S. coins from 1957 to 1964 were struck as proofs...and just a fraction remain today and are highly prized by coin collectors.
Included with this collection are the last regular 90% silver proof Roosevelt Dimes and Washington Quarters, the last 90% silver Franklin Half Dollar issued in 1963, the first 90% silver Kennedy Half Dollar, the last classic Lincoln Wheat Ears Penny issued in 1958 and the first Lincoln Memorial Penny issued in 1959.
When these Proof Sets were released, they were packaged in clear U.S. Mint protective sleeves that made it safe to examine the coins without fear of damage from dust, dirt and fingerprints — but over the decades many were broken open for the individual coins. As a result, it is increasingly hard to find just a single original Proof Set from the final years of silver coinage, let alone a complete and unbroken collection of every intact Proof Set from 1957 to 1964 in the original U.S. Mint packaging. To provide even greater protection, each year's Proof Set is presented in a black acrylic holder that creates an extraordinary presentation.
At around the time of your third shipment, you will receive a deluxe wooden display case at no extra charge that provides the perfect way to showcase these historic Proof Sets.
